2 businessmen excrete 193 cocaine pellets in NDLEA custody after arrest at Abuja airportAs Agency arrests 185 at Abuja, Kano drug joints; seizes Saudi-bound cocaine parcels, Colorado consignments from Canada.Two businessmen arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, NAIA, Abuja for cocaine ingestion have both excreted 193 pellets of the illicit drug after three days in observatory custody.The traffickers: Onoh Ebere, 49, and Christian Ifeanyi Ogbuji, 47, were intercepted at the Abuja airport on Wednesday 10th May upon their arrival from Uganda via Addis Ababa, onboard Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 951. Though both suspects have businesses they manage in Nigeria, their main source of income has been drug trafficking. They both travelled to Uganda and from there crossed over to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where they picked the consignments before returning to Abuja with Lagos as their final destination.

DAVIDO’S BANANA ISLAND HOUSE UP FOR RENTPopular Nigerian singer and songwriter, Davido, has reportedly put his luxurious Banana Island house up for rent following the tragic death of his son, Ifeanyi. According to sources, the house is available for rent at $150,000 per year. The singer had purchased the house and had been residing there with his family before the unfortunate incident.Ifeanyi, who was only a year old, drowned in the house pool in November 2022 causing a great deal of sorrow and pain for the singer and his family. Davido had taken a break from social media in the wake of the tragedy and had since been spending time with family and friends.It is not yet clear if Davido and his family will be moving out of the house permanently or if they will be relocating to a different property. However, the decision to rent out the house may be a step towards moving on from the heartbreaking loss.

Singer Dremo Performs For Hilda Baci As She Attempts To Break World RecordA chef from Akwa Ibom State, Hilda Baci, enjoyed a performance from singer Dremo as she attempted to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time.In an attempt to clinch this record, the 27-year-old graduate on Thursday set up a four-day ‘cook-a-thon’ at Amore Gardens, Lekki, Lagos State.Dremo arrived at the venue late Saturday to perform for the chef and cheer her on, alongside other Nigerians.Hilda is on a mission to cook multiple dishes for an expected period of time in order to get recognition from the Guinness World Records.The current record for the world’s longest cooking marathon is held by Lata Tondon who completed the task in 87 hours, 45 minutes, and 00 secs in Rewa, India in 2019.As at the time of the report, the chef has exceeded 62 hours in her attempt.

The US will destroy its last remaining chemical weapons by the fall of 2023, President Joseph Biden announced ahead of next week’s international arms control conference in The Hague. “We are well on our way to completing the destruction of our chemical weapons stockpile by this fall – a disarmament milestone that upholds the highest standards of transparency and public safety,” Biden said.

DIRECTOR GLOBAL DEFENCE NETWORK UNITED KINGDOM VISITS ARMY WAR COLLEGE NIGERIAThe Commandant of the Army War College Nigeria, Major General Bamidele Ababi, received the Director of Global Defence Network United Kingdom (UK), Air Vice Marshal Mick Smeath (CBE), on Wednesday 10 May 2023. The visit was aimed at strengthening the cooperation between the college and the UK, especially in the area of training and other capacity-building initiatives.The Commandant in his remarks said that Nigeria and UK share a long history of cooperation on security issues, and expressed his appreciation for the visit. He reiterated that, the partnership between UK and the College has been crucial in enhancing the mission statement of the college which is “To Produce Well-Trained, Educated and Inspired Operational Level Leaders for the Nigerian Army”. This visit according to him is a testament to the strong relationship between our two countries. “We are grateful for the support and partnership of the United Kingdom in addressing our security challenges.” He added.While responding, Air Vice Marshal Smeath expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to visit the College and learn more about the Nigerian military’s approach to professional military education. “The UK is committed to supporting Nigeria in its efforts to address the threats facing the country,” he added. “We believe that by working together, we can enhance the capacity of the Nigerian military and promote regional security and stability.The Army War College Nigeria is a premier institution for the training of senior military officers not only Nigerian Army, but other sister services and officers from African countries. The UK has been a key partner in Nigeria’s fight against insurgency, providing intelligence support, training and equipment to the Nigerian military. The visit by the Director of Global Defence Network is expected to further strengthen their relationship, especially in the area of sharing expertise and knowledge between the college and the United Kingdom.Highlights of the visit were presentation of operational brief by Colonel AO Onasanya, presentation of souvenirs and group photographs.

UN Chief Guterres Applauds General Sawyer for quality leadership of UNISFAThe United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Antonio Guterres has applauded the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) Acting Head of Missionand Force Commander, Major General Benjamin Olufemi Sawyerr, for excellent leadership despite increasingly difficult conditions.The commendation was contained in the Secretary General’s Report on Abyei read on the floor of the UN Security Council by the Assistant Secretary General for Africa in the Department of Political and Peace Building Affairs and Peace Operations Ms. Martha Phobee.“I thank the acting Head of Mission andForce Commander of UNISFA, Major General Benjamin Olufemi Sawyerr, my Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Hanna Tetteh, and all UNISFA personnel, as well as United Nations agencies, funds, and programs in Abyei, for their commitment to maintaining peace andsecurity, under increasinglydifficult conditions”, Mr. Guterres said.The Secretary-General also applauded UNISFA under the leadership of General Sawyer for superintending over the late stages of the mission’s transition from a Force provided by a single troop-contributing country to a multinational Force comprising eight troop contributing countries and congratulated the troop-contributing countries and the mission for the achievement.The SG lamented: “While UNISFA does itsutmost to maintain security and stability in the Abyei Area, the Force continues to be overstretched, notably in the absence of progress on the deployment of the three Formed Police Units, in line with the Security Council authorization, and I urge the parties to allow for their deployment.”He stressed that “It is anticipated that the mission’s capacity will suffer the impact of the outbreak of violence in the Sudan in April, including remaining deployments of troops and contingent-owned equipment.”Mr. Guterres also condemned the repeated restrictions on the freedom of movement of UNISFA and its contractors, which disruptedthe mission’s ability to implement its mandate fully, and calledon both parties to ensure that the freedom of movement of UNISFA in its area of responsibility is maintained.It can be recalled that Major General Benjamin Olufemi Sawyerr officially took over from Ethiopia’s Major General Kefyalew Amde Tessema as UNISFA’s Ag. Head of Mission and Force Commander on 15 March 2022 to lead the newly reconfigured Multinational Peace Keeping Mission.
