GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY FOR CONSTRUCTION OF QUARTERS-As IGP Prioritizes Officers’ WelfareThe Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, CFR, accompanied by members of the Force Management Team, has today, May 3, 2023 conducted a groundbreaking ceremony of Police Officers Quarters at Zone 6, Wuse, Abuja. The event marked the commencement of construction works at the project site and was attended by Senior Police Officers, and other dignitaries drawn from all walks of life.The project which is being coordinated and managed by Nigeria Police Force under the auspices of the Nigeria Police Properties Limited, will cover an area of 4.5 hectares and comprise 50 terraces of bungalows, a clubhouse, and a state-of-the-art sports complex amongst others with modern facilities and structures. The Inspector-General of Police emphasized his commitment to the welfare of Police Officers during his remarks at the occasion. DEFENCE COOPERATION: NIGERIA – INDONESIA SIGN LETTER OF INTENT……..PARTIES ASSURE ON WIN-WIN DEAL The Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Government of the Federal Republic of Indonesia have signed letter of intent to deepen bilateral defence cooperation. The brief signing ceremony held at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters, Ship House Abuja. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, mni represented the Minister of Defence Maj Gen Bashir Salihi Magashi(rtd) CFR and signed for Nigeria while the Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr Hustra Harahap signed for Indonesia. The objective of the letter of intent according to the parties is aimed at promoting defence cooperation in accordance with the prevailing laws and regulation of the two countries. They affirmed to maintain principle of mutual respect, fairness and reciprocity. The areas of cooperation contained in the letter of intent include, exchange of high ranking operational officials, promotion of education and training as well as promotion of defence industries and intelligence sharing. The signing of the letter of intent which has articles one to three opened a new vitsa of hope in strenghtening bilateral cooperation between the two countries as explained by the Permanent Secretary Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana,mni. Dr Kana assured the 5 -man Indonesian delegation that Nigeria is poised to drive the Memorandum of Understanding, MoU between the two countries. The Permanent Secretary said the long history of robust relationship between Nigeria and Indonesia with common areas of interests as members of G-30 and G-8 countries suffice to promote a win-win deal. The Indonesia Ambassador to Nigeria Dr Hustra Harahap thanked the Minister of Defence for the platform provided to sign the letter of intent. He assured Nigeria of his country’s total commitment to abide by the articles contained in the signed document.The ceremony was witnessed on the sideline by the Director Joint Services Department Ministry of Defence, Olu Mustapha, her counterparts in the Medical, Dr Olajide Johnson, Press, Victoria Agba-atta and the Special Adviser Technical Major General Ahmed Tijani Jibrin (rtd). Hudu Yunusa-Ari, the Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), who was alleged to have announced the candidate of the All Progressives Congress winner of the gubernatorial elections during the recently concluded supplementary elections following calls for his arrest and investigation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the basis of alleged impropriety in the course of supplementary gubernatorial polls in the State.Barrister Ari, who was arrested by the Police Election Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Team in Abuja on Tuesday 2nd May, 2023, is currently in Police custody and is being grilled to ascertain the motives and motivations behind his alleged improper actions during the supplementary elections in Adamawa State. I’ll Not Marginalise Any Part of Nigeria – TinubuPresident-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has promised to work evenly for the country without marginalising any part in areas of development.Asiwaju Tinubu, who is due to be inaugurated as president on May 29, said this Wednesday in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.The president-elect is on a two-day visit to the state to inaugurate projects executed by the Nyesom Wike administration. “I will not marginalise any region, but will leave legacy projects across the length and breadth of Nigeria,” he said at the opening of Rumuokwuta/Rumuola Flyover Bridge.Tinubu praised Governor Wike for the development strides in Rivers State, particularly for the 12 flyovers constructed across the capital city, saying posterity would kindly remember him.He said with his accomplishments in the state, Nigeria would need the outgoing Rivers governor in higher capacities.On the political front, Tinubu thanked Wike and the people of Rivers State for their support for him.He said he was in the state in line with the promise he made during the campaigns in Rivers, saying “if you make a promise, you keep it.“I will never forget the pivotal role the great and wonderful people of this state played in my victorious campaign to become the next president of this country. PICTORIAL: Obasanjo Commissions 23.4km Road In Akwa IbomFormer President Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, inaugurated the 23.4km Eket- Etinan dual carriageway constructed by the Akwa Ibom State Government.The dual-carriageway, which has three bridges is said to be the longest road ever constructed by the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel as he exits office on May 29.The 23.4km Eket – Etinan Road Project linked Etinan, Nsit Ibom, Nsit Ubium with Eket LGAs. It is the second longest constructed dual carriage road in Akwa Ibom StateIt comes with three new bridges measuring 199mAlso on this road is a 4.11km Outfall Drain. Carriageway width of 8m eachProvides easier access to the State College of Education, Afaha Nsit and connects with the 20km Uyo – Etinan RoadThis is the third major project in the State under Governor Udom Emmanuel.
